| Other common names: Kingfish, Smokers, Snakes Size: Up to 150 lb for occasional fish; but average 10-50 lb. Distribution: Worldwide between lat, 35' N and 35' S. General: A migratory species often found in large schools in certain areas, and during the mating/spawning period it shows much ritualistic jumping. It is probably on of the most international confused fishes of the mackerel family, for each geographical local has its own mackerel nomenclature. The kingfish is both an important commercial and sport fishing species. As a sport fish it has many of the attributes of the wahoo, but is not as fast in the water. Food value: The flesh is of very high quality when taken small, under 10 lbs and is good up to 20 lbs and is OK smoked up to 40 lbs. After that you need magic or a lot of hot chili peppers.
