Can we bring children?
Yes! They must be seven years or older. I have this rule because the trips are too long for the attention span of small children. By making a child stay on a long trip after his or her fun is over, may lose you a future fishing buddy.
Of course, all children are different, but I needed to draw the line somewhere. For small children, the fun time last about 20 minutes to an hour. After that it becomes more of endurance then fun, a bit like sitting on a stool and watching a clock tick off the seconds until you can leave.
Small children also need constant attention and surveillance in this new environment. They need someone of some competence to stand close and help hold and guide the rod, bait the hook if needed. Lost rods, you pay for and they start at about $150. I will be busy running the boat, finding fish, coaching everyone and above all, looking out for our safety.
I believe in taking small children fishing but your game plans needs to change to accommodate them. You may want them to go on a Fox hunt but they need to start with a pony ride. If you understand this and are willing to apply your self, it will work. Most small children would enjoy just playing in the bait-tank for an hour and calling it a day. This may not fit your plans or warrant your investment.
